We present a lineup of 11 young talents who have excelled in the Serie B season and could be ready for the step up to the top flight. This selection focuses not only on market value but also on their playing characteristics and potential.
The Italian second division has proven before to be a breeding ground for future stars. Think of Pio Esposito’s contribution to Inter’s 2025/26 Scudetto, or the fact that today’s most valuable Italian player, Sandro Tonali, honed his skills in Serie B with Brescia. Here are the 11 suggested talents.
TOMMASO MARTINELLI (Fiorentina / Sampdoria)
The Fiorentina-owned goalkeeper, currently on loan at Genoa, is no newcomer. He was featured in the 2023 Talents Calendar, which told his story and development. Born in 2006, the Bagno a Ripoli native has grown by learning from De Gea, made his Serie A debut, played three Conference League matches, and has now helped steer a struggling Sampdoria into calm waters. Thanks to his height, Martinelli covers a lot of the goal, combining great reflexes with incredibly mature positioning, making him hard to catch off guard. While he might seem like a classic Italian-style keeper, his ball-playing ability also places him among modern goalkeepers who can help build from the back. With De Gea’s future uncertain, could this be his moment at the club he considers home?
GADY BEYUKU (Modena)
Modena made a smart move by signing a young player who started for France in the U20 World Cup last autumn. Beyuku already stands out for his athletic qualities: his willingness to push forward and carry the ball in transition makes his contribution tangible, even if his technique and shooting aren’t yet top-tier. Aggressive in pressing and perhaps even too eager to anticipate, he has the right attributes to try playing as a wider center-back, as he has done before. Another year in Serie B might benefit him, but having a guide in Serie A who can help him mature and reach his full potential could also be valuable.
RAPHAEL KOFLER (Südtirol)
The South Tyrolean talent is ready to step up. Born in 2005, the Merano center-back has everything to impose himself immediately and attract interest from both the Italian and German markets: above-average maturity, enviable technical quality for a central defender, elegant movement, precise tackling, and consistent performance throughout matches. At just 21, Kofler shows he can already compete at a higher level and has the mentality to lead the defense in all phases. His past as a midfielder makes him as complete as possible in modern football.
MATTEO PALMA (Udinese / Sampdoria)
Another young player with immense potential, already covered in the 2024 Talents Calendar. Palma has dual citizenship but currently identifies with Germany, though he has worn the Italian U15 shirt, so early persuasion might be wise. The boy is destined for greatness, having quickly moved up through Udinese’s ranks. Barely of age, he is already showing that he has the qualities to change games. On loan at Sampdoria, he has made 20 appearances and provided 3 assists this season, displaying a mix of power and finesse in midfield. His vision and ability to break lines make him a modern midfield all-rounder.
