Chelsea have stepped up their search for a new manager by holding discussions with Andoni Iraola, as the Bournemouth head coach turned down approaches from Crystal Palace. The London club continues to consider Xabi Alonso and Marco Silva as potential candidates.

The Blues are looking for a permanent boss after parting ways with Enzo Maresca and, more recently, Liam Rosenior. Iraola’s work at Vitality Stadium has impressed Chelsea’s hierarchy. The Spaniard has guided Bournemouth to the brink of a historic European qualification, firmly placing him on the shortlist. The reported meeting signals a significant escalation in Chelsea’s interest. Iraola and Alonso are both represented by agency IDUB, a connection that has reportedly facilitated talks with both coaches.

Iraola Responds to Speculation
Despite growing interest from London clubs, Iraola remains focused on Bournemouth’s season. When asked about renewed interest from Crystal Palace, the Spaniard said: “I’m in no rush. I won’t discuss my future. I’m completely focused on finishing this season with a reward – something concrete for the players and fans.”
Palace had approached Iraola twice in their search for Oliver Glasner’s successor. However, the Bournemouth boss rejected those attempts, though the club has not entirely given up hope of persuading him to move to Selhurst Park.
Alonso Leads Ownership’s Preference
While Iraola is a serious candidate, former Real Madrid boss Alonso has emerged as the top choice among Chelsea’s ownership group, BlueCo. Internally, Alonso is seen as a high-caliber appointment capable of reshaping the team tactically and guiding a young squad toward success. Bringing in a manager of his stature may require structural changes within the club, including greater board influence over recruitment. Chelsea are reportedly willing to adjust their current model if it helps secure a top-level coach, following past disagreements over transfers that strained relations with former managers.
Decision Looms as Shortlist Narrows
Chelsea’s search is currently focused on a four-man list. Besides Iraola and Alonso, Fulham’s Marco Silva and Oliver Glasner remain under consideration. Silva is highly regarded by the Chelsea board, though Fulham have offered him a lucrative new contract to stay at Craven Cottage. As the season draws to a close, the Blues need to act quickly to appoint a permanent manager and prepare for the new campaign.
