Ana Thaís Matos, a commentator for Globo, has strongly criticized coach Tite following his recent statements about Corinthians. In an interview with “GE”, the coach admitted regret for not accepting an offer to return to the club in 2023 and even apologized to the Corinthians fans for choosing to take over at Flamengo months later.
During the interview, Tite recalled the failed negotiations with Corinthians after leaving the Brazilian national team. According to the coach, at that time he prioritized the possibility of working in the Premier League, especially after advanced talks with West Ham United. He stated that if he could turn back time, he would have accepted the invitation from Timão.
“The Corinthians were the club I left to go to the national team, and even though they were against it, they accepted. If I could go back in time, I would have gone to Corinthians,” Tite declared.
The coach also acknowledged that he made a mistake by turning down the São Paulo club in 2023.
“Publicly, I say: sorry, Corinthians. I was wrong. For emotional reasons, if I could rewind, I would have gone,” he added.
However, these statements were not well received by Ana Thaís Matos. The journalist rebuked the coach’s apology and criticized the stance he took during the earlier negotiations.
“An apology for someone who has no consideration, I dismiss, and I hope Corinthians fans have some self-respect not to forget this,” she said.
Ana Thaís went further, labeling Tite as “ungrateful” and arguing that Corinthians should strengthen institutionally to no longer depend on former idols.
“I hope this club reorganizes itself so it never has to ask favors from ungrateful people again,” she fired back.
Tite, a historic idol of Corinthians, had three stints at the club, winning six titles, including the 2012 Copa Libertadores and the 2012 FIFA Club World Cup, considered the greatest achievements in the club’s recent history. Overall, the coach led Corinthians in 378 matches with a win rate above 60%, in addition to winning the Brazilian Championships in 2011 and 2015.
